Just like with everything else, music has stereotypes too. Each type of
music has a few stereotypes.
Country for example has the stereotype of all of the songs being the same,
like all of the songs are about women, their dog dying, the county, etc. Rap music
is known for only being about three things, money, pu$$y and drugs. Rock is
known for provoking bad things in people, and a lot of people think that you
cant understand screamo therefore its awful.
Although all of these things can be true, and are a lot of the time, there are
always times were they aren't true. Eminem is a perfect example, he is a well
known rapper, who is known and loved for his lyrics about real things vs.
money, pu$$y and drugs, though all of those things are in his music he also sings
about his daughter and this hard life he lived as a kid.
I completely disagree with the fact that rock provokes bad behaviors in
people. Although I may be biased because I love rock the most, I don’t believe
that any type of music provokes bad behavior, I believe that other people do. I
think that the energy that rock music gives off can be a little crazy. Like at
concerts for instance, however the thing about concerts is that a lot of people
are drunk, and in a crowd like that a lot of people are feeding off of each
other’s energy and emotions.
With country music, I do agree that most of the music is the same, however
there are many different kinds of country music. There is straight up country
music, there’s soft country, more of a rocky country, pop country, etc. A lot
of different songs are about similar things, but they have different story
lines, and can have a completely different feel to them.
Screamo can be very hard to understand, however if you look at the lyrics
there is so much more to it, and not all screamo is strictly screaming, there
are a lot of bands that sing as well, Halestorm for instance is a great
example, they aren’t screamo, they’re rock, however they have songs with a lot
of screaming in it. Music, as well as everything else, has its stereotypes, but
that’s all they are, nothing more.
