The Dolphin's Cry

Apparently this week I am just very into dissecting song lyrics to get the meaning of the songs. To many times people know all the words to a song but cant put together the songs meaning, or rather they don't think to. It seems most people are really just concerned about the way the words sound together. I will admit I have been guilty of this before. Although sometimes when I listen to a song a few words catch my attention emotionally and than I actually listen to what it is that the song is trying to say.
So I'm dissecting the lyrics of The Dolphin's Cry which also happens to be by Live.

The way you're bathed in light
Reminds me of that night
God laid me down into your rose garden of trust
And I was swept away
With nothin' left to say
Some helpless fool
Yeah I was lost in a swoon of peace
You're all I need to find
So when the time is right
Come to me sweetly, come to me
Come to me

Love will lead us, alright
Love will lead us, she will lead us
Can you hear the dolphin's cry?
See the road rise up to meet us
It's in the air we breathe tonight
Love will lead us, she will lead us

Oh yeah, we meet again
It's like we never left
Time in between was just a dream
Did we leave this place?
This crazy fog surrounds me
You wrap your legs around me
All I can do to try and breathe
Let me breathe so that I
So we can go together!

Love will lead us, alright
Love will lead us, she will lead us
Can you hear the dolphin's cry?
See the road rise up to meet us
It's in the air we breathe tonight
Love will lead us, she will lead us

Life is like a shooting star
It don't matter who you are
If you only run for cover, it's just a waste of time
We are lost 'til we are found
This phoenix rises up from the ground
And all these wars are over

Over
Over
Singin' la da da, da da da
Over
Come to me
Singin' la da da da, da da da
Come to me

Though after reading the lyrics to the song you get the feel that its about sex on the beach, which is true, I feel like there is more to it than that. I think its more about loving someone so much that you can barley control yourself, and that when you leave nothing really matters until your back again, its all a "fog" "Love will lead us"

Life is like a shooting star
It don't matter who you are
If you only run for cover, it's just a waste of time
We are lost 'til we are found
This phoenix rises up from the ground
And all these wars are over

These lyrics to me strike a lot of meaning, they're saying that love will find anyone and everyone, whether you're ready or not, no matter what has happened to you in the past, love doesn't care. love is what leads us ;)

Lightning crashes

This is going to be a little harder, I am going to dissect they lyrics of a song; it's one of my favorite songs. The song is called Lightning Crashes and its by the band Live.

Here are the lyrics to the song

lightning crashes, a new mother cries
her placenta falls to the floor
the angel opens her eyes
the confusion sets in
before the doctor can even close the door

lightning crashes, an old mother dies
her intentions fall to the floor
the angel closes her eyes
the confusion that was hers
belongs now, to the baby down the hall

oh now feel it comin' back again
like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel it.

lightning crashes, a new mother cries
this moment she's been waiting for
the angel opens her eyes
pale blue colored iris,
presents the circle
and puts the glory out to hide, hide

This song is a very powerful song if you have ever heard it. If you haven't heard the song you definitely should!
In terms of the meaning of the song, its really pretty simple. It's about life transferring from one life to another. As one women dies, a baby is born, almost as if taking her place in the world. As people die, their life goes on, new life is created. While its sad that the mother dies, there is happiness in the little baby.

Dirty Heads

The Dirty Heads are a band that I used to listen to all the time, I don't know why, but I kind of just stopped listening to them. Recently when in the car my friend put them on in the car and I forgot how much I love them. They kind of remind me of the band 311. They are a reggae band but they also include a hip-hop, punk kind of sound.

The band includes Jared Watson, who does vocal, Dustin Bushnell, Who plays guitar and (in my favorite song (Sloth's Revenge)) sings, There is also Jon Olazabal, he plays percussion, Matt Ochoa who plays drums, and finally David Foral, who plays bass. Together they are crazy amazing! they have played for a long time but have been a band since 1996, a great year!

If you haven't ever listened to them I highly encourage it! they are what I listen to before bed. They have a nice tune and it can be crazy soothing. They have a very eclectic tune sometimes, its weird and amazing, it totally works for them.

Honestly I don't really have much more to say about them. I really just want people to be more aware of them, I think they should be listened to a lot more than they are. They are amazing! So please, the next time that you're bored and don't know what to do, listen to these guys.

they way we choose

The way we develop our musical interest varies in many different ways. At a young age your parents probably listen to whatever they listen to and as a result you grow up listening to the same type of music, and same artist, because you don't really know about many other types of music or other artists.

Growing up both of my mom and dad listen to the same thing, they listen to classic rock, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, rolling stones, etc. So as a result I am actually one of the few people in my generation who actually knows who these bands are, not even just knowing them, but listening to them too, because everyone knows who the Beatles are.

As I started school, in class me and my little friends would all talk about what we like and don't like, this means that we would also talk about music. When we didn't share interest in the same types of music we would go home and ask about it or we would look it up. When I was in first grade I had this friend that was obsessed with country. When we talked about it I grew up knowing that both my mom and my dad detested country, so I automatically said that I hated it, without even listening to it first. Your parents have a huge influence on what it is that you do and do not like as a little kid.

By the time I got to middle school I got more and more friends, they all listened to different types of music, but I never got to experience what they did because I refused to listen to anything other than rock, however the types of rock that I listened to broadened, I had friends that listened to heavy metal and such, so I listened to that with them because it was rock, I didn't disapprove. So as a result in middle school the only broadening that happened with me and music was that my rock interest grew as I learned and listened to new bands.

When I reached freshman year of high school I had never fully heard a country song. I started dating this guy and he was definitely a country boy, all he listened to was country, and because he was a couple of years older than me, he could drive. In his car all we did was listen to country all the time, at first I complained and complained because I hated it, but I had never really listened to it all the way through. After awhile however it kind of grew on me. I don't know how, or why but I think its just that I actually listened to the songs and they lyrics and what they actually meant, although they are all the same in meaning, they are all also very different in style.

As a Sophomore after my old best friend stabbed me in the back, I eventually got a new best friend: Allie. We hit it off instantly, and because we were both 16 we could both drive. the first time we hung out was actually when we became best friends, the one thing we didn't have in common was music. she listened to rap, hip hop, pop, and country. so we settled on country. The only rap I knew was Eminem, MGK, and Tupac. So we agreed to listen to country. Eventually however we both got bored of it after awhile because its all that we listened to, so every so often we would switch off listening to what the other liked. In return we both began to enjoy each others taste in music! So I now listen to pop, hip hop, rap, country, and any type of rock. And as a result I gradually started listening to everything. Other than classical music I enjoy all types of music, I have the most eclectic taste in music that I know of. I urge you to listen to different types of music, enjoy and experiment, what you find will definitely surprise you. Don't let your parents interests hold you back! even if they are unintended.

When its Appropriate

Music, although its amazing, isn't always appropriate in the setting that you're in, so I'm going to inform you on some times where it isn't and when it is.

I don't know about everyone, but I pretty much always have my headphones in, I actually used to get in trouble at home because I never really did anything with my family I was either always in my room blasting my music (which angered my family.... A LOT!) or I was chilling with my headphones in. Although you might want to do this too, don't, if there is anything I learned from this its that you need to be social, even with your family. You can end up feeling kind of alone after awhile.

Another place I always love music, is when I'm taking a nice warm bath, I don't know about you, but when I'm cozy in the bubbles its nice to listen to some Jasmine Thompson. Its nice even when your taking a shower, however be aware that if you are going to listen to music in the tub that it has to be a lot louder which can in return anger some family members.

Some times when it wouldn't be appropriate is when you're having a conversation, take BOTH headphones out, its kind of rude to be not fully paying attention to who is talking to you. Also in class, I know you don't want to hear this, but unless the teacher says its ok, you probably shouldn't listen to music. Imagine yourself giving a speech and people are listening to music instead, I think this is probably how teachers feel when their students are listening to music.

Make sure that if you're listening to music its the right time, and if its the right time and your playing it so others can hear too, make sure its appropriate for the situation, and that you aren't going to anger anyone around you. Another thing to make sure of is that music doesn't run your life, try to still talk to people, don't just get stuck in your musical world and shut everyone out.

Techno

Ok, so I have done a lot of stuff with music, from country to rap, but I do not think I have really done much with techno.
Techno over the years has gotten more and more advanced and finds its way into a lot of different music genres. You can find rap songs with techno mixed into it, as well as most pop and some rock. Techno can also be by itself. One of the first bands that I can think of that started techno (it is actually one of my favorite bands) is depeche mode. They are like the originals of techno, most people wont know who they are, but I grew up listening to them with my dad and my sister. As you listen to their albums by year (so first one ever to last) you can actually see the progression as the music gets more and more techno like.

There are a lot more bands that are techno, many of which are well known, like deadmau5, daft punk, skrillex, etc. All of these bands are pretty well known and they preform more of a techno based sound. Techno music is more like disco than any other type of music. If you ever get the chance, before you just decide you don't like a type of music, listen to more than one artist from the genre, listen to a full song as well. but don't knock it till you try it.
